Major left leaning political parties on Tuesday launched an alliance for strengthening the left alternative political force out of the two big political alliances, led by Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Leaders of the eight left political parties at a press conference at Maitri Auditorium at Communist Party of Bangladesh central office announced the launch of the new alliance.
The CPB, Socialist Party of Bangladesh and Democratic Left Alliance partners — SPB (Marxist), Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, Ganasanghati Andolan, Democratic Revolutionary Party, United Communist League and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Andolan — are components of the alliance.
Saiful Huq, general secretary of the RWP, said in a written speech that the country was facing a serious political crisis.
The ruling Awami League-led government had failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people and the people were eagerly waiting to support a third alternative political force.
The newly announce left alliance will work for establishing the rights of the common people and materialise their aspirations, coming out of the influence of the two big political parties — Awami League and BNP, Saiful said.
The new alliance raised a five-point demand including ensuring democratic rights of people, resisting corruptions, looting and grabbing, fulfilling essential demands of common people, ensuring people’s right to national resources and ensuring sovereignty of the country.
The alliance will hold countrywide demonstrations on August 9, protesting against failures of the government in checking corruptions.
CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim said that the ruling parties had failed to ensure good governances.
He called on all left parties and their well-wishers to join the new alliance for establishing rights of people.
SPB general secretary Khalequzzaman in his welcome address said that the left parties would work to fulfil the expectation of the people.
SPB (Marxist) central leader Shubhrangshu Chakrabortty, DRP general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, UCL general secretary Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Ganasanghati Andolan central leader Abul Hassan Rubel, Samajtantrik Andolan convener Hamidul Haque and others attended the press conference.
