We already published 4 informative accounts on the solidarity campaign with the victims of the super-typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda, which hit the center of the Philippines last 8th of November. The most recent one gives a progress report of the aid organized on the site by Mi-HANDS, our partner from Mindanao [1] : the first phase of the initiative has been realized and the second is now being prepared.
We also published a partial synthesis of the situation in the Philippines a month after the passage of this devastating cyclone [2].
We are now presenting here in more detail the results of the campaign initiated by ESSF covering the period between mid-November and mid-December 2013.
We earlier received in 2012-2013 other donations to the Solidarity Fund for Asia established by ESSF. We will report on this in January 2014.
Concerning the other specific campaign launched this year, for the victims of the industrial disaster that took the lives of more than a thousand workers in Bangladesh, an other report has been posted online [3].
Financial Report of the « Haiyan » campaign on 17 November 2013

15 000 euros to Mi-HANDs.
300 euros to the Tricycles trade union of Tacloban (for the reconstruction of houses that were destroyed).

Preparation of the aid packs
The campaign continues
Let us recall that during the first phase of the campaign, Mi-HANDSs gave emergency aid to 1,168 households (about 5000 to 6000 persons) in 3 localities in the north of the island of Leyte. Some 50 volunteers were sent from Mindanao to the affected areas, among which medical teams (more especially practicing oriental médicine) and psycho-social assistance. A big truck was rented, and then a second one, smaller, to transport the goods.
The expenses were estimated at 24 000 euros. Local collections of 1000 euros came in and 25 000 euros were borrowed from local sources.
At the international level, financial support was hoped for from several countries and movements, but for the moment, our Philippine partners have received money only from the ESSF campaign. With this situation, it is therefore important to continue on with our efforts, contact again networks or individuals and ask organizations that have not yet responded to this campaign. The range of countries that have responded show the international character of our initiative – and also shows that more need to be done !
Our thanks to all the persons and organizations who have already contributed to this solidarity initiative.
