Political situation in Hong Kong
Since the beginning of the mobilizations and strikes last June, Hong Kong has been largely part paralyzed on several occasions: the two flagship sectors of Hong Kong, the air transport and the banking sectors were particularly affected.
– SUD Aérien (ground staff union) and ALTER (pilot union) provide their full support and solidarity to the airline workers in Hong Kong, fighting for their democratic rights.
– SUD Aérien and ALTER denounce the requirement of Beijing authorities that any Hong Kong flight crew who participated in or supported demonstrations is banned from flying to Mainland China or flying over Chinese airspace.
– SUD Aérien and ALTER are in particular in complete solidarity with the workers of Cathay Pacific threatened with dismissal for participation in ongoing movements of contestation.
Under pressure from the Beijing authorities, Cathay Pacific management has formulated prohibitions against theft of those who take part in actions.
Two pilots would have been dismissed as well as two ground staff employees.
A managerial policy based on intimidation and threat is applied. We firmly denounce this repression.
– SUD Aérien and ALTER defend the right to go on striking and demonstrate.
As such, SUD Aérien and ALTER support calls for the cessation of repressive measures ordered by the Cathay Pacific management.
