Labour Party Pakistan has planned nationwide demonstrations against price hike on 6 June 2008. Demonstrations and rallies will be organized in more than 30 cities in all four provinces. This is in response to the growing wave of price hike in every field of life. The implementation of neo liberal agenda is showing its real colors in the shape of growing unemployment, price hike and poverty.
In Lahore, a meeting called on 26 May by Labour Party Pakistan Lahore chaired by Nazli Javed decided to organize a rally on 6 June starting from Regal Chouck Mall Road till Club Road, the office of the chief minister of Punjab. Over 70 representatives of different trade unions, social organizations, peasants and youth organizations participated in the meeting.
Overwhelmingly mood at the meeting was to organize a mass rally and do a lot of campaign in the factories, work places and in the communities. A target of the mobilization was set at 5000. Comrades at the meeting were sure that they would achieve this target of mobilization.
A live discussion took place about the reasons of price hike and how to fight against it? It was agreed that the implementation of neo liberal agenda has made the whole situation worse. The only way to fight against price hike is to build a movement of the working class. It was explained that a new movement against price hike had to be build on permanent basis rather than one event. There is no way that the present capitalist system is able to reduce the burden on the workers.
It was agreed that the question of restoration of the top judges and removal of Musharaf is very much linked with the movement against price hike. We will demand an immediate reinstatement of the judges and Musharaf to be kicked out of office.
Posters, leaflets and stickers will be produced for 6 June day of action across Pakistan.
Labour Party Pakistan is inviting all the progressive forces to join hand in this day of action against price hike.
