Labour Party Pakistan welcomes the decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan to reinstate the suspended chief justice Iftiklhar Choudry and reiterate that the struggle to end military dictatorship will continue.
Nisar Shah chair person and Farooq Tariq general secretary of the Labour Party Pakistan said in a press statement that it is victory of a mass movement. It is victory of the people’s power. It is victory of a non violent method of militant struggle. “the united struggle of advocates alongside with workers and peasants of Pakistan have proved that it can defeat the iron man like general Musharaf” Farooq Tariq said in the statement. He said the Supreme Court judges would have not taken this decision if street power would have not been build.
The Labour Party leaders said that it was a classic combination of fighting within the courts for a just cause with peoples in favor in streets. He said that our sacrifices have brought positive results. Farooq Tariq who was arrested twice and spent 20 days in jail during the last two months for supporting and organizing the movement for the independence of judiciary said that progressive groups played an important role in building the movement.
The Labour Party leaders demanded from the chief justice of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the large scale corruption in the process of privatization. He also asked the chief justice to take notice of the exploitation of peasantry carried out by land mafia around Lahore. “The chief justice must reinstate the peasantry to their lands after his own reinstatement” Farooq Tariq demanded.
Labour Paty Pakistan considers the reinstatement as the winning of a first round of struggle. “the victory must be linked with the overthrow of the military dictatorship and the rotten capitalist feudal system” Farooq Tariq said. We will continue our struggle for the end of military dictatorship.
