Parallel to The World Social Forum which took place in Belem, Brasil in 2009, an Ecosocialist Forum was held. Following the forum, The Belem Ecosocialist Declaration was announced.
Being conscious of the fact that it is the common responsibility of all the warring people to discuss the possibility whether the struggles that have arisen against ecological crisis could act together in urban and rural areas, to seek the potentials of a global organization and forms of solidarity and to develop organized means of struggle against the exploitation of nature and labour, Ecology Collective is calling all the European ecosocialists and all the participants of The European Social Forum to co-organize the European Ecosocialist Forum parallel to The European Social Forum that will take place between the 1st and the 4th of July in İstanbul.
Ecology Collective is going to hold EESF preparatory meetings through May in seven cities in Turkey so as to get prepared for the EESF. The theme of the 1st meeting, which will take place on May 15th in Ankara, will be “Ecological / Economic Crisis and a road map to organize EESF” In the following preparatory meetings, we are going to discuss the headlines below which we also will propose as EESF sessions in the ESF:
ECOLOGICAL CRISIS OR ECONOMIC CRISIS ?
THE TOGETHERNESS OF URBAN AND RURAL MOVEMENTS
FOOD SOVEREIGNTY AND DEVELOPMENTALISM
ENERGY PROBLEM: THERMAL POWER, NUCLEAR, HYDROELECTRICITY AND BEYOND
MINING
CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE NEW MEANING OF STATE
We propose that one of the thematic forums that will take place on the final day be named as European Ecosocialist Forum with the headline “ HOW TO ORGANIZE GLOBALLY AGAINST THE ECOLOGICAL CRISIS”
European Ecosocialist Forum gives us a historical opportunity to re-define the areas of struggle and to collectivize struggles with all the organized, ecologist, socialist forces for labour and nature who resist the exploitation of life. We believe that we are going to take this opportunity well all together so that we can reinforce our power, ideas and relationships.
