Islamabad (29 September 2007): The Labour Party Chairperson, Nisar Shah, was arrested here in capital city of Islamabad on Saturday (September 29) along with a number of other pro-democracy activists following a demonstration against General Pervez Musharraf.
These advocates and activists were protesting against the illegal ‘re-election’ of General Musharraf.
The protesters, led by advocates, gathered in their hundreds to protest outside of the Election Commission and were attacked by police.
Reportedly, police arrested Nisar Shah and few others after the demonstration.
Nisar Shah, a lawyer by profession, is a known activist and Chairperson of the Labour Party Pakistan since 2003. In his early thirties, Nisar Shah has been active in politics since his student days. He also contested elections for Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly last year. Of late, he remained very active in organizing relief and reconstruction work in quake-hit areas of Kashmir.
Meantime, LPP Secretary General and ten other LPP supporters were sent to jail by a court in Lahore. They were also arrested for participating in an anti-Musharraf demonstration in Lahore earlier this week.
