LPP Punjab one day congress concluded here in Lahore on Sunday 20 April evening. Congress was held at the auditorium of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. Over 120 delegates from 13 different districts attended the congress. 112 delegates voted in a secrert ballet for the new slate of LPP Punjab committee.
Choudry Imtiaz Ahmad is elected as general secretary LPP Punjab. He is a leader of advocate movement and has been chairperson LPP Punjab earlier. The congress elected 21 members LPP Punjab committee including 4 women comrades. A women comrade, Riffat Maqsood, received the maximum vote during the secret ballet while Choudry Imtiaz got the second best votes.
Comrade Salim Jhakar was elected as the peasant secretary. He is one of the main leaders of Anjaman Mozareen Punjab, a tenant organization fighting for land rights at Military Farms Okara. Comrade Aslam Meraj was elected a labour secretary. He is a leader of textile workers in Faisalabad and has led several successful struggles of the power looms workers in the district.
Riffat Maqsood is elected as women secretary. She is one of leading member of Women Workers Help Line and member editorial board Weekly Mazdoor Jeddojuhd. Mina Anis elected as education and culture secretary while Azmat Jee was elected as youth secretary of LPP Punjab.
Comrade Farooq Tariq introduced the political perspectives in the morning session. There was live discussion and it as agreed to build the workers peasant movement to fight against the continuation of neo liberal agenda by the present PPP government. He said the LPP Punjab must show in practice that it goes hands in hands with the exploited nationalities of Pakistan. We must demand an equal share of wealth for Baluchistan. We must condemn the government action of brutality against the resisting nationalities. LPP demand an immediate recovery of all the missing persons mainly from Baluchistan. We will organize demonstrations for the release of the Baluch activists and leaders including Akhtar Mengal.
Labour Party Pakistan has decided earlier to divide the party into two independent organizations in the Punjab province. LPP Saraiki Waseeb congress will be held on 25 April 2008 at Multan.
