Various events were held yesterday to mark 50 days of protests at the Kandy protest site, including a motorcycle rally from Digana, an Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) convention, a street drama by actor Jehan Appuhami, and a musical show.
Crowds of supporters converged towards Torrington Park in Kandy in solidarity. Nuns, monks, priests, and Imams (Islamic priests) made their presence known as they joined in to add their voices to the protest. Protestors from the “GotaGoGama” protest site in Colombo’s Galle Face Green also participated in the event to demonstrate their support to the movement.
Meanwhile, the Matara “GotaGoGama” protest site marked 50 days of protests last Saturday, joined by local fishermen who were unable to go to sea due to fuel shortages. The “GotaGoGama” protest site in Galle also marked 50 days of activity last Saturday.
