PMLN government have miserably failed to implement labour laws accord Pakistan. Minimum wage is not paid and social security cards have become a dream for working class" this was stated by Farooq Tariq general secretary Awami Workers Party speaking at the AWP public meeting held at Grain Market Toba Tek Singh.
Earlier the three separate rallies by Textile and Power loom workers, Bhatta Mazdoor Union and Awami Workers Party merged at Shahbaz Chouck. They march unitedly through the Main Bazar raising slogans like, “workers of world unite, long live Workers peasant unity” Workers United will never be defeated, social security card for every worker, stop child labour at all industrial and private institutions, pay minimum wages including Bhatta Mazdoor".
Speaking at the rally Farooq Tariq said that there is an anti worker government at federal and provincial level. They are more interested in capitalist infrastructure development. We need more focus on human development. PMLN members of assembly from Toba Tel Singh have failed to provide clean water to the city despite promises all the time. Punjab development find is mainly spent on Lahore development. We need better wages and employment with an honour. The government wants worker to beg. Workers are not baggers.
Farooq Tariq said that despite 130 years of Chicago martyrs movement for 8 hours a day work, workers in pakistan are still forced to work long hours with slave wages, Workers must be paid at least 13000 Rupees monthly for 8 hours daily work. Over 80 percent private institutions do not pay the minimum wage. The labour department have become an ally of the bosses and they do not take actions against violators of labour laws. Farooq Tariq warned the local administration against demolishing the katchi Abadies in the district. Give them land rights rather demolishing my heir homes.
Farooq Tariq said that Awami Workers Party has emerged the main party of the working class in Pakistan with a short space of time.
He demanded an end of victimisation of Okara tenants and an end of blockade of the villages. He also condemned the rejection of nomination papers of Baba Jan in Gilgit Beltistan, “PMLN is afraid a working class hero in jail” he said.
Farooq Tariq demanded the release of all political activists including Okara, Sheikhupura and GILGIT Beltestan.
