Vickramabahu Karunaratne widely known as Bahu is contesting for the most populated and influential provincial council in the country.

Dr. Bahu is leading the Nava Sama Samaja party (NSSP) team for the Colombo district under the Table symbol. The election will be held on the 29^th of March.

As a principled politician Bahu has actively fought over half a century theoretically and physically for the unity of nationalities based on Equality, Autonomy, and the Right of Self Determination.

Bahu and the NSSP have always maintained that Democracy and freedom can prevail only if there is unity among nationalities. For this he has been shot, assaulted, critically injured, jailed, sacked from posts, abused and at times elected to office.

The present Sri Lankan regime led by Mahinda Rajapaksa is bulldozing every human right, cultural diversity and the environment following a massacre. He won the battle and lost the war in the unresolved political conflict. More military men are being trained now than ever before and occupy Tamil region with high military expenditure. This is a continuation of the policy of successive governments that ruled Sri Lanka since 1948.

Working masses are heavily oppressed with no increase of wages in line with the Cost of Living and have become dispossessed. The education is privatised. In the name infrastructure development, foreign loans are being siphoned off, by cronies. The burden of this regime is made to be carried for generations.

In addition to the north, urban land is grabbed to be handed over to multi-billion business vultures. The overwhelmingly affected are the non-majority communities.

This onslaught can only be stopped by empowering the oppressed.

One step towards achieving that goal is to make use of the opportunity given by the Western province election to elect Comrade Bahu to the Council.

To make it a reality in addition to calling upon voters in the Colombo district to elect Bahu, we appeal to those living away from Lanka to do your best by contributing to the NSSP election campaign morally and monetarily as well as calling upon your loved ones in the Colombo District to vote for Bahu and the NSSP.
