SS Kurniawan, Jakarta - As many as 21 demonstrators
from Indonesia were arrested by Hong Kong police
after participating in a demonstration against the
World Trade Organisation (WTO) on Saturday December
16 [sic]. Six of them - all women - were released
after being questioned.
According to Consul of information section of the
Indonesian Consulate in Hong Kong, Noegroho Ari
Bhimo, Hong Kong police arrested them on Sunday
morning at around 5am local time. Local security
personnel had been conducted a raid following a
clash [that broke out at the demonstration].
“When they were arrested they were sitting on Jalan
Gloucester near the building where the WTO meeting
was taking place”, he told Tempo by telephone on
Monday December 19.
There were around 50 demonstrators from Indonesia
that joined the demonstration.
