Upon landfall, the depression brought heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions in Bangladesh, including Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Mymensingh Divisions. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reported that the system weakened into a land depression over Satkhira and surrounding areas on the night of May 29, continuing to cause significant rainfall.
The heavy rains led to flooding in low-lying coastal districts, with tidal surges inundating areas in at least 14 districts, including Chattogram, Khulna, and Barisal. Maritime ports such as Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra were advised to hoist cautionary signal number three due to squally winds and rough sea conditions.
In Dhaka, the depression caused persistent rainfall throughout May 30, with forecasts indicating continued precipitation in various parts of the country into May 31. The BMD warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in regions including Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka divisions.
The depression also impacted India, particularly in West Bengal and Odisha, where it caused moderate to heavy rainfall.
Overall, the deep depression significantly affected weather patterns across Bangladesh and eastern India, leading to widespread rainfall, flooding, and disruptions in daily life.
Three peasants in the southern parts of the country died from the tidal surge, and millions of families lost all of their belongings, like cattle, poultry, crops, seedbeds, seedlings, etc.
Bangladesh Krishok Federation has a stronghold in the southern areas. Many members of the organization were affected severely. They need humanitarian support immediately.
Therefore we urged the international friends to extend their humanitarian support so that we can stand with them in this difficult period.
