India Social Forum: Nov.9-13, CALL TO PARTICIPATE
Dear All,
The India Social Forum (ISF) will be held in Delhi from 9th-13th November 2006. The ISF is the third event to be organised by World Social Forum -India after the Asian Social Forum in Hyderabad (January 2003), and World Social Forum in Mumbai (January 2004). Under the motto of ’Building Another World: Visions for the Future’, the aim of the India Social Forum is to further advance the movement against neo-liberal globalisation, militarisation, sectarian politics, caste and patriarchy, to build solidarity and present alternatives for a better world.
Though being held in India, the ISF is being organised at a crucial time when both the WSF process and imperialist globalisation, war and militarisation have gained strength. While the WSF process in 2006 has struck new roots in Bamako (Mali), Caracas (Venezuela), and in Karachi (Pakistan), the people of Africa, Asia and Latin America are embattled by forces of imperialism. Militarisation has taken new forms all over the world, and people in West Asia have suffered aggression, invasion, war and occupation.
More than ever, Asia - Africa convergence is crucial at this juncture in world history, and is one of the key themes of the India Social Forum. This is especially important to us as we look forward to the World Social Forum, to be organized in Nairobi, in January 2007. The ISF will be a space to reflect and strengthen the unity and struggles of people of Asia and Africa against hunger, debt, inequity, inequality, aggression, war and occupation. It will be a space to mobilise greater resources across Asia and Africa to envision alternative and showcase the rich futures produced by the wide spectrum of social and political movements. An estimated 60,000 persons are expected to participate in this, representing diverse movements and organisations from India, Asia, Africa.
We wish to invite the broadest participation from Asiaand Africa in the India Social Forum. We know that some of you are already making plans to attend, but would request that you spread this information to others who would be interested.
