Join the fight back against the union-busting aggression of the market leading NXP Semiconductors. The company’s illegal retaliation to their Philippine employees organizing and peacefully supporting the collective bargaining process was to sack all 24 union officers on 5 May. Among the dismissed by NXP Semiconductors in Cabuyao, Laguna is the president of the national metalworkers union MWAP, Brother Reden Alcantara.
Management and government are colluding to bust the union, one of the few that successfully organizes workers in the country’s Free Trade Zones. The MWAP, IndustriALL Global Union and LabourStart jointly call on supporters to write to the NXP management and Philippine government authorities and urge NXP to:
Reinstate the 24 union officials;
Immediately resume CBA negotiations;
Regularize contractual employees;
and Respect workers’ rights.
The Letter
Rick Clemmer, NXP CEO,
Jose Miguel Orleans, General Manager, NXP Semiconductors Cabuyao,
Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, Secretary, Department of Labor and Employment
It is with deep outrage that we have learned from the MWAP of the unjust and anti-union actions by the management of NXP Cabuyao. 24 union officers of the NXP Semiconductors Company Workers Union were dismissed on 5 May, directly after the union’s peaceful industrial actions related to the collective bargaining negotiation process. The management is guilty of a shameless and transparent union-busting attempt. These actions are in clear violation of fundamental workers’ rights and trade union rights, which are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Philippines as well as core labour conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which the government of the Philippines has ratified. Therefore, I strongly urge you to reinstate immediately all the dismissed union officers, and return to the collective bargaining table to achieve a fair and just resolution of this conflict as well as create a constructive relationship between labour and management.
