Dear friends,
We are networks and international or regional social organizations who have been working together to prepare the Assemblies of social Movements in World Social Forum, to coordinate actions against the war and and to set up counter-summits against free trade and multilateral financial institutions.
We need to draw a balance sheet of the stage reached by the altermondialist movement both at international and regional levels. What are its characteristics, the challenges which we are faced to and the lines of work to pursue in the construction of a network of social movements? It is in this perspective that we are organizing the Seminar on Strategy of the Social Movements from September 28 to October 1st 2006 in Brussels (Belgium), in the Chant d’Oise building .
We envisage the participation of 85 people with quotas by movement and area of the world. The proposal of quotas is: 9 people from international networks; 24 from Europe, including Eastern Europe; 19 from North America, Caribbean and Latin America; 14 from Asia; 14 from Africa and 5 from the Arab World.
In order to guarantee the presence of people of Africa, Latin America and Asia, we are asking the Europeans to share part of the lodging cost. Nevertheless, for the travel and other lodging expenses,we have to ask for the support of cooperating organizations.
We hope to be able to count on the support of your organization. What amount could you grant? Could you take charge of a number of tickets? If so, for participants from which regions of the world?
The support will be coordinated by the networks and organizations who signed the invitation call to the Seminar. These are : Continental Social alliance, CADTM, COMPA, Focus on the Global South, Global Grassroots Justice, South Jubileo, World March of Women and Via Campesina.
We decided to write collectively this letter to facilitate the coordination of the support and to assure the presence all participants in the seminar.
