The decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to request the parliament, to postpone select committee process until SC determination, is a victory to the people of Lanka who stood for democracy and fair play. It clearly sends a message to the ruling elite that the judiciary is not shifted by the hard line within the parliament. It also means that parliament as the agency of peoples power has to work within constitution, natural justice and fundamental rights of the people. It has no supreme power to dictate terms to the people. The ultimate sovereignty lies with the people who elect the parliament through the electoral authority. The spirit of the ultimate demands the parliament, executive and judiciary to co-exist but not to aggression one another.
Arbitrary actions will be controlled by the mechanism of referendum as given in the constitution. Crude majoritism cannot by pass the civilized norms of the society.
Judicial leaders who kept alliance to their professional oath will be remembered by the people of this country.
