THATTA, Nov 17: Activists of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) took out a rally on Tuesday to draw the attention of higher authorities towards the plight of 55 fishermen languishing in Indian jails. The imprisoned men belong to three coastal talukas of Thatta district.
Workers of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Mahaz and Thattao Bachayo Forum also joined in the procession to express solidarity with the families of fishermen.
The participants carrying banners raised slogans and after marching on main thoroughfares converged at the National Highway in front of Thatta press club.
Syed Gulab Shah, Syed Nawaz Shah Bhadai, Hajan Solangi, Rashid Jakhro and others expressed concern over what they termed the step-motherly attitude of rulers with fishermen.
They said the failure of authorities in earmarking demarcation line and keeping undecided the issue of territorial limits of India and Pakistan oceanic waters since long were reasons behind the arrest of poor fishermen from both the sides.
Previously it was easy for the families to trace Pakistani fishermen in Indian jails but now it was impossible to trace the 55 fishermen caught by the gun-totting Indian law enforcing agencies from Pakistani waters, they said.
